Utilities Committee revises water, sewer rate recommendations

Greenville’s Utilities Committee met Thursday to revise its recommendations on water and sewer rate increases. The committee will recommend smaller increases than originally planned, but stretched out further in time.

GREENVILLE Greenville City Council’s Utilities Committee on Thursday revisited the city’s plans to increase rates on water and sewer for city residents.
By unanimous consent, all three committee members approved a recommendation to council for a decrease in the planned rate hikes.
A previous measure, which would have increased water rates by 50 percent in May 2021, and 18 percent in November 2021, as well as hikes of 25 and 10 percent for sewer rates, respectively, was voted down 6-0 during council’s March 16 meeting.

GREENVILLE Debate will continue as Greenville City Council tabled a rate increase on water and sewer services during council’s meeting Tuesday night.
The proposed ordinance calls for water rates to increase 50 percent effective May 1, 2021, and an additional 18 percent Nov. 1, 2021. Sewer rates would increase 25 percent May 1, and 10 percent more on Nov. 1. The legislation would also have the city switch to monthly utilities billing, effective May 1. The ordinance has now received three readings.

GREENVILLE During its Tuesday night meeting, Greenville City Council heard from the public regarding the city’s proposed increase on water and sewer rates for infrastructure improvements.
The measure calls for water rates to increase 50 percent effective May 1, 2021, and an additional 18 percent Nov. 1, 2021. Sewer rates will increase 25 percent May 1, and 10 percent more on Nov. 1. The legislation will also have the city switch to monthly utilities billing, effective May 1.
