The Mayors of Oklahoma’s Last All-Black Towns Intelligencer 4 days ago Camille Squires
In 1984, Dr. Francis Shelton moved back to Boley, the Oklahoma town where she grew up. She had gotten her degree in another town and worked for years as a biochemist in Oklahoma City; upon returning to Boley, she noticed how many buildings had fallen into disrepair, how commerce had declined. “Our elders were so interested in training us on how to make a living that they didn’t teach us how to make that living here,” says Shelton. She decided to purchase the hardware store, both for the business and to preserve its history: The original owner, T.B. Armstrong, had helped found Boley in 1903 and served as its first mayor, a post Shelton would take up in 2015.

DeAri Todd will be heading west to close his college career.
The former Michigan State defensive end and graduate transfer announced his commitment to Montana via Twitter on Wednesday night. Todd entered the portal on April 26 – two days after the Spartans finished spring practice – and never played a snap for the team.
A former three-star recruit from Clearview High School in Ohio, Todd signed with Michigan State’s 2017 recruiting class. He didn’t play while taking a redshirt as a true freshman and didn’t appear in a single game over the following three years but was an Academic All-Big Ten selection each of the last three seasons.

None of the six players have ever appeared in a game with the Spartans.
No dancing allowed at this H.S. prom, but that may change

On one hand, just having a prom beats what happened to the Class of 2020 last year in the wake of the first wave of coronavirus pandemic restrictions in New Jersey. But having a prom this year and not being able to dance adds another degree of difficulty to a time-worn traditional rite of passage.
That’s the challenge facing Clearview Regional High School’s Class of 2021, which was informed recently that dancing may be prohibited during their prom next month because of ongoing state Department of Health coronavirus pandemic restrictions.
