Old Saybrook The Connecticut Department of Transportation said in a news release that a closure and detour of Route 154 in Old Saybrook is slated to be in place from March 8 to May 31 due to construction to replace the bridge carrying Route 154 over Plum Bank Creek.
DOT has released the following detour information:
Access to the south side of the bridge from the north:
• Continue North of the bridge on Route 154 for 1.1 miles. Turn right onto Old Boston Post Road and travel for 0.7 miles to Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and travel for 0.5 miles to Maple Avenue. Turn right onto Maple Avenue and continue for 1.3 miles until Route 154 is reached. Turn right onto Route 154 and follow for 0.9 miles bringing traffic to the North side of the structure.
Stonington A group of residents and Old Mystic Fire Department Chief Ken Richards are pressing town officials to replace the deteriorated Lantern Hill Road bridge instead of spending $68,750 for a temporary fix that would keep the bridge open for the next five to 10 years but prohibit large vehicles such as firetrucks from crossing it.
If nothing is done, the 71-year-old bridge over Whitford Brook would have to be closed to all traffic. A recent study rated it as being in the worst condition of the town s 22 bridges.
Betsy Graham, the secretary of the Lantern Hill Valley Association, a neighborhood group, said Wednesday she has collected more than 300 signatures from residents and nearby businesses in Mystic calling for the replacement of the bridge, which connects Ledyard and Stonington.
Groton The town of Groton was awarded a $344,705 state grant to extend the G&S Trolley Trail and provide more opportunities for people to bike in the Poquonnock Bridge section of town.
The grant will allow the Town of Groton to extend the path to provide a safe connection to Sutton Park and Route 1. Currently, the multi-use path is accessible from Bluff Point State Park and Haley Farm State Park to Knoxville Court, according to the Groton Parks and Recreation Department. We re really excited about the project, Town Manager John Burt said. We re committed to expanding nonmotorized transportation wherever possible. Parks and Rec, Planning, and Public Works all collaborated on this and did a fantastic job.

Stonington The town is asking 28 property owners along Route 1 in Pawcatuck to grant it easements so the long-awaited project to install sidewalks from the high school to downtown Pawcatuck can begin.
Director of Economic and Community Development Susan Cullen said this week that letters have been sent to the property owners and they have begun making appointments to see the almost complete engineering plans or calling her. The easements are needed because the town will need to do work on, cross or access the properties. So far no one has had any problems. They are thrilled the sidewalks are coming, she said.
