A GOVERNMENT minister has hailed all the teams involved in vaccination roll-out across St Helens – after meeting with key players on a video call. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps checked in with leading figures at the mass vaccination centre at St Helens rugby league stadium in the North West, to see first-hand the efforts of those involved. Mr Shapps praised the efforts of transport operators and employees across the country who have gone above and beyond to help the nation’s coronavirus vaccination roll-out, ahead of the Government confirming on Sunday that 15 million people had been given their first dose of the vaccine.

Our first volunteer is Calvin Grover, 63. Calvin Glover Calvin moved to Thatto Heath from Portsmouth several years ago to be closer to his son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, Jake 13 and Joshua, 10. He’s been a volunteer at St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Trust for four years, and before the pandemic he was on hand to offer support to patients and staff in the Accident & Emergency department.

Whiston Hospital updates rules for pregnant woman s birth partners attending appointments PREGNANT women can have one person with them at all appointments and during labour at St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals from Monday, December 21. Hospital trusts were this week ordered by the NHS to review their current coronavirus rules and allow pregnant women to have a birth partner present throughout appointments, labour and birth. The new guidance for Whiston and St Helens Hospitals comes after outrage nationally that some women in England were being forced to go through labour alone, and hear devastating news about miscarriages without the support of their birth partners.
