In a night that combined steadfast traditions with unparalleled circumstances, the International Student House of Washington DC (ISH-DC) last month held its annual leadership awards ceremony online.
The Feb. 9 event honored Rep. Don Beyer (D-Virginia); his wife, journalist and activist Megan Beyer; and local businessman Robert J. Abernethy. The Beyers jointly received a Global Leadership Award, while Abernethy got a Global Educator Award.
Among those hosting the event were diplomatic chairs Domingo Fezas Vital, Portugal’s ambassador to the United States, and his wife, Isabel Vital, along with co-chairs James Blanchard, who was governor of Michigan and then US envoy to Canada from 1993 to 1996, and his wife Janet Blanchard, and Lisa Barry and James Gale.
