EU-UNICEF Sign 17.4 Million Euros agreement to improve access to education in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD/QUETTA – July 10, 2021: The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), today signed an agreement to launch the Balochistan Education Support (BES) II, a five-year education development programme for which the EU will provide 17.4 million Euros (PKR 3.27 Billion). The overall cost of this project is Euro 22.2 million and UNICEF co-financing is Euro 4.8 million (PKR 0.92 billion).
The new programme aims to contribute to supporting the Government of Balochistan to build high- quality performance and management education systems in the province. It will contribute to the overall objective of improving literacy, numeracy, skills and qualifications for the people in the province. It will do so through improving access to quality primary and middle-level education and by increasing accountability, reporting ....

Pakistan receives first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines via COVAX Facility

More than one million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine delivered by COVAX Facility to support Government’s efforts to vaccinate high-risk people across Pakistan
Islamabad, 8 May 2021 – Today Pakistan received its first shipment of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines (SII-AZ AZD1222) from the COVAX Facility.
The consignment of 1 238 400 doses of vaccines, which will be followed by another of 1 236 000 in a few days, will support the Government of Pakistan s ongoing historic drive to bring the pandemic to an end. Further allocations from June onwards will be confirmed in due course. The goal of the COVAX Facility is to supply Pakistan with enough doses to vaccinate 20% of the population depending on availability. ....

Pakistan receives first tranche of 1.2m AstraZeneca vaccines under COVAX


Islamabad: Pakistan on Saturday received its first consignment of 1.2 million Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX initiative to help boost the vaccination drive.
It will be followed by another 1,236,000 doses in a few days to support the government’s vaccination process in the country of 220 million. The 2.47 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine will help immunise about 1.24 million high-risk people in Pakistan.
“In this unprecedented crisis, we appreciate COVAX and GAVI’s contribution to the collective effort to fight COVID-19 in Pakistan,” and to help expand the vaccination campaign from vulnerable to all age groups, said Dr. Faisal Sultan, the advisor to the prime minister on health affairs. ....
