The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted robbery that led to a death at the Bait Bucket on Highway 312 in London. Investigators say the robbery happened around 7 a.m. Saturday when a man entered the store demanding money while claiming he had a weapon. Reportedly an employee fired at the suspect after he began assaulting another employee. Police say one shot hit the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Jacob S. Vann of Keavy, who was later pronounced dead by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office. One employee was also hit by a stray round and airlifted to UK Medical Center in Lexington for treatment. Deputies were assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police and West Knox Volunteer Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing.
The deceased has been identified as Jacob S. Vann, 32, of Keavy.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 312 Market, formerly known as The Bait Bucket, near the intersection of Ky. 312 and Level Green Road.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, stated that approximately 7 a.m., a male subject, later identified as Vann, entered the store with the intent to rob it.
According to deputies, Van inferred that he had a weapon.
Van reportedly assaulted a male employee.
“Another male employee fired shots at the suspect (Vann) who was assaulting the other employee, hitting the suspect at least once causing fatal injury to the suspect.,” Acciardo stated adding that an unidentified female employee was struck by a stray bullet.

KEAVY â An employee was shot and a Keavy man was killed during an attempted robbery at the 312 Market, formerly the Bait Bucket, on Highway 312 Saturday morning.
The man killed was Jacob S. Vann, age 32, and was the suspect in the robbery. Vann was shot by an employee after entering the store around 6:59 a.m. Saturday stating he wanted the store s money and inferring he had a weapon, according to the Laurel County Sheriff s Office.
Vann reportedly assaulted a male employee during the robbery attempt. Another male employee fired shots at Vann, who was assaulting the other employee, and hit Vann at least once causing a fatal injury.
