Rep. Michelle Steel (CA-48) announced the introduction of a congressional resolution to designate August 24, 2021 as “Kobe Bryant Day,” in honor of the basketball legend who tragically passed away last year. Bryant was an Orange County resident and lived in the 48th Congressional District with his family. August 24th (8/24) honors Bryant’s two numbers during his 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, 8 and 24.
“Kobe Bryant used his platform to inspire millions and help kids around the world achieve success and strive for greatness. On August 24th we should remember Kobe, celebrate his life, and encourage the next generation to dream big just like Kobe did,” said Rep. Steel.

LOS ANGELES - January 26, 2020, was a day that broke hearts beyond the world of sports. A year after a helicopter crash took the lives of nine California residents, including Kobe and Gianna Bryant, their legacies continue to live on.

Alyssa was an eighth-grader at Horace Ensign Intermediate School in Newport Beach.
During the memorial service for the Altobelli family, Keri Altobelli’s brother, Derek Sanders, said his niece had the most infectious laugh.
Her childhood friend Sammy Forbath added that she always did her best to make others happy.

The husband of a woman killed in the Kobe Bryant helicopter crash is reportedly suing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department over a series of graphic photos taken by eight deputies at the scene.
The lawsuit, which is similar to one filed by Vanessa Bryant, claims Matthew Mauser and his three daughters suffer severe emotional distress, anxiety and humiliation “from the realization that photographs of their mother and wife were wrongfully taken, shown and discussed,” according to court records obtained by TMZ.
