El Pasoans will choose who will help shape the future of two school districts Saturday in EPISD and SISD school board elections.
Ballots cast in El Paso s polling stations will carry extra weight in this election, where two school board elections will decide more than half the makeup of trustees on each board. There are 17 candidates competing for four seats in the EPISD race and 11 candidates vie for four seats in the SISD race.
Because EPISD uses a majority election system instead of plurality, the race could end in a runoff. In a majority vote, a candidate must win more than 50% of the total vote to win or the election goes to a runoff with the top two candidates. SISD uses a plurality vote.

Legislation allowing for the naming of the child victims of homicide has been passed by the Seanad and will now go to President Michael D Higgins.
The President has seven days to sign the legislation after which the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has seven days to sign a Commencement Order.
Minister McEntee told the Seanad that many members of the Oireachtas had been contacted over recent months by parents who wanted to publicly remember their children but were prevented from doing so .
She added: Every parent should be able to speak about their child publicly; to secure their child s legacy.
On Wednesday, April 7, Deputy Jim L. Cornelius, was assigned a call for service at the Law Enforcement Center. An individual advised he either lost and/or had his Rolex Datejust watch stolen. The individual stated he removed his Rolex watch and placed it in the golf cart. The watch was not in the golf cart when he returned. The Rolex Datejust is valued at $7,000. This incident took place at the Hideout Golf Course on Monday, April 05, 2021
On Wednesday, April 7, Deputy Joe Thomas was dispatched to Plummer St. This was in reference to a Burglary. The complainant advised several tools had been stolen from a shed on his property. A report was made.
Local Vaccine Clinic Monday March 15 – Appointments Only
COUNTY News:
Nambe Drugs, Los Alamos County, and the New Mexico Department of Public Health (NMDOH) are holding a
vaccine clinic Monday, March 15 at the Auxiliary Gym at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr.
Appointments are required to receive a vaccine. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Note: This clinic includes booster appointments for individual who received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine Feb. 14.
County officials remind individuals that upon appointment check-in they will need to provide the NMDOH confirmation code as well as insurance and Medicare cards as applicable.
Los Alamos residents who did not receive a NMDOH notification for this upcoming vaccination clinic are encouraged to remain patient. Clinics are being scheduled as soon as vaccine doses become available.
