WILMINGTON â A new zoning proposal seeks to make senior housing easier to develop and more affordable, allowing older residents to âage in placeâ and opening up other residences for younger families or individuals. âAs seniors maybe downsize into a smaller unit or efficiency apartment, that does free up housing for other people to move in,â said Meg Staloff, chairwoman of the Planning Commission. âWhether thatâs their family can be near them in their old house or that house gets sold to a newer family or gets rented out, itâs allowing development to happen that meets needs.â

WILMINGTON â Organizers had to postpone Old Home Week last year due to COVID-19 but theyâre planning for the community and visitors to be out celebrating in full force next month. âIt really is an amazing event and weâre lucky itâs only every 10 or 11 years because thereâs no way we could do this every year,â said Nicki Steel, chairwoman of the Old Home Week Committee. âWe need it. People are so looking forward to reconnecting â thatâs what Old Home Week is anyway but especially this time. It is about reconnections and families getting together and meeting new people. Thatâs what itâs always been about but itâs going to be special this time.â
