The Celebration of Life for Nancy Brown, 88, of Appleton, who died on May 22, 2021, will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2 p.m., at 260 Union Road (Route 131) in Appleton. Community members and families are welcome to attend this casual party to remember and celebrate Nancy and her community.
APPLETON Nancy Clair Weller Brown, 88, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on May 22, 2021. She was the loving wife of Theodore (Ted) Brown, who predeceased her in 1990.
Nancy was the only child of R. Franklin and Florence T. Weller. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island, where she served as a “candy-striper” hospital volunteer during her teenage years. She graduated Cranston High School in 1950 and Colby College in 1954, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Art. SPRUCE HEAD Senior Newman Blanchard, 87, of Spruce Head, Maine, passed away after a brief illness, on March 2, 2021, in his home, with his family nearby.
Senior was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to George Russell Blanchard and Barbara (Senior) on November 4, 1933. He grew up in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, where his family had long owned and operated the Blanchard Bros. Quarry. He graduated from Uxbridge High School and then attended Vermont Academy, graduating in 1952. He then joined the US Army, being discharged in 1956 with the rank of SP3. He then briefly attended both Dartmouth College, and Bridgeport University in Connecticut.
He lived and worked in Connecticut until he moved to Maine in 1968 and hand built his permanent home in Spruce Head. He worked as a special projects engineer for Tibbetts Industries in Camden and spent 40 happy years there until his retirement in 2008.
Alice R. Merrifield Boody.
LINCOLNVILLE Alice R. Merrifield Boody, 84, passed away peacefully and the way she wished, at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
Born in China, Maine May 10, 1936, she was the daughter of Ellery A. and Marion F. Prescott. From an early age shew as raised by her aunt Eva L. Sidelinger and uncle Raymond O. Turner. Alice attended Union High
School, graduating in 1954.
Alice married Laurence “Red” Merrifield and together they raised five sons. Sadly he passed away in 1993.
She later married Kenneth Boody in the summer of 2000. She was sadly widowed again when he passed in 2005.
As a young woman, Alice worked in the local sardine factory and later went on to work at Tibbetts Industries in Camden for 30 years.
