Friday: St Louis Singer Gene Jackson Discusses New Album The Jungle And Surviving COVID

COVID-19,” opens the chorus in Gene Jackson’s new song, “Vaccine.” The longtime St. Louis soul singer wrote the song before there was a vaccine, and the irony of him later contracting the virus is not lost on him. “I thought it would kill me,” Jackson told St. Louis on the Air about getting COVID-19 shortly after the album was released earlier this year. “It was three weeks of hell.”

This miserable pandemic has forced us to reflect on what has been and what might be coming. Then we were hit on the head with more racial strife with awful tragedies occurring all over our country. The arts are always at the forefront of change in our society and so I approached some respected leaders in the arts community and asked them how they were handling both the pandemic and equity, diversity and inclusion. Andrew Jorgensen, General Director of Opera Theatre of St. Louis, says that the organization is adapting to the pandemic in many ways. First of all, the actual annual festival will be presented outdoors and many talks and musical programs have been presented on-line.
