Fond memories of Love Lane Primary School, Cowes, were triggered recently when a photo from the school in the 1980s was emailed to the County Press office. Cindy Yelling nee Blyth is the daughter of Mrs Vi Blyth, who taught at the school for many years. Cindy now lives in New Zealand and sent the County Press some of her mum s photos.
Scroll through our gallery of pictures above to see more of Love Lane Primary School in bygone days. Mrs Blyth s photos included a picture of her grandson, Simon Parr, in Fiddler on the Roof, which was the school s 25th anniversary production in 1984 (main image, above).
THE rollout of the new Oxford coronavirus vaccine is now under way in Inverclyde to protect over 3,000 residents over the age of 80. Local GP practices have been supplied with supplies of the vaccine to help in the fightback against Covid-19. Kilmacolm s New Surgery is one of the places running clinics, which follow on from the effort to vaccinate care home residents and frontline staff. Delighted New Surgery patient Hazel Blyth, 86, was one of the first people to be inoculated yesterday. Hazel told the Tele: I am absolutely thrilled to get my vaccination. It is fabulous. It was no problem at all to get the jab, it all went very well.

From the Groat of January 7, 1921
The SS Kentucky, of Copenhagen, had been carrying goods and mails on a voyage from Copenhagen to Boston, USA, when it ran ashore at Skirza Head, Freswick.
At the time the sea was too rough for reaching the vessel with a boat, and it increased during the night. But about midnight the rocket apparatus crew from Scarfskerry, along with the divisional officer of coastguards from Dunnet Head, arrived on the scene.
