Here’s what’s happening around the region: 1pm: DHB nurses vote to strike over pay, horrific and unsafe staffing About 30,000 hospital nurses from around the country– including ones administering the Covid-19 vaccine – are to go on strike over “horrific and unsafe staffing conditions” and news of no pay rises for three years. The New Zealand Nurses Organisation announced the plan to strike on Friday. More mediation is due on Tuesday and Wednesday but, if it goes ahead, the strike will take place for eight hours on June 9. I’m Bill Hickman, the early shift breaking news reporter in the Wellington newsroom, and here’s what you need to know as you start your day. 8.56 am: Vehicles cleared from crash on Fergusson Dr, Upper Hutt. 7.46 am: Two car crash on Fergusson Dr, Upper Hutt: One person is in a serious condition after a crash involving two vehicles in Upper Hutt. Police and Fire services were attending the scene on Fergusson Dr between Stream Gr and Field St. Ambulance were on their way. The accident was obstructing the westbound lane of Fergusson Dr and traffic was heavy in the area.
