Today, SYFY WIRE was invited (along with select outlets) to get a first-person look at the Funko Hollywood store, which is hosting the in-person event this week. Already at capacity, there will be no walk-up availability for the three-day event happening Aug. 4-6. But those lucky enough to score store access during the timed sessions (from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT each day) will get to potentially purchase the limited exclusives available for the event, and participate in the overall party. The store will be stocked up with limited quantities of new Funko Pops, Loungefly bags, and other exclusive collectibles.

Before getting into the table read of the upcoming episode, “Stair Wars,” the cast and executive producers shared their take on what makes The Patrick Star Show different. “It’s a variety show folded into a sitcom,” Ceccarelli explained. “We could basically just go anywhere we wanted to go with our creativity. We could do genre parodies, we could do all kinds of different segments that would be a little more disconnected and fragmented and fractured, kind of like Patrick s brain probably is.”

We also spoke with Walt Disney Imagineering Executive Creative Director Kim Irvine and Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Director Susana Tubert, who explained that this particular revision to the ride was a months-long collaboration between Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, (which will be upgrading their Jungle Cruise to match later in 2021).
“We want when guests come to the park not to just see the same ride over and over again,” Irvine said of the changes. “It s always fun to have the discovery of something new. So this time, we took advantage of the same stories that were there, the same threads, the same scenes, and enhanced them with some new things.”
