Reply April 29, 2021 The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation awarded grants in excess of $88,000 in support of 29 programs that benefit children and families in the region on April 22, 2021. Subscribe The Foundation, a 501(c)3 overseen by a volunteer board with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, fulfills its mission to enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities for children and families through generous donations from the business community. Annual fundraising events, the Holiday Gala and Bowl-a-thon, were put on hold for 2020. In 2021, the Foundation is pleased to have the support of sponsors through the Every Month is a Holiday campaign, with year-long media sponsor The Day and creative support from Miranda Creative and Eighty Six Media.

BankHometown raises funds for local food pantries Staff reports Robert J. Morton, president and CEO of bankHometown, announced that this year’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors fundraising drive raised $32,200 for local food pantries.  Local food pantries receiving $2,300 were Community Kitchens of Northeastern Connecticut in Killingly, Daily Bread in Putnam, Friends of Assisi in Killingly and Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group.  Each year, the bank invites customers, employees, and members of the community to donate funds at bankHometown branches throughout the month of November. Donations received are matched by bankHometown and the total divided among food pantries in Massachusetts and Connecticut communities the bank serves.

Jewett City Savings Bank awards grant funding

Jewett City Savings Bank awards grant funding Staff reports Jewett City Savings Bank recently awarded $100,000 in grants to six organizations in the communities the bank supports to help them manage the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce of Westerly, Rhode Island, received a $20,000 grant to support the downtown Pawcatuck-Westerly area businesses. The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse in Putnam and the Garde Arts Center of New London also received $20,000 grants. Grants of $15,000 were awarded to Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group of North Grosvenordale and the Jewett City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10004. A Reason To Ride, of Plainfield, a veterans’ support organization, received a $10,000 grant.
