A district judge has reduced the bond of the man accused of killing a missing Elmore County woman.
Elmore County District Judge Glenn Goggans reduced 65-year-old Thomas Whitehurst’s bond to $250,000 cash only. In addition, Whitehurst is only allowed to have limited travel to certain places, including work and visits with his attorney.
Whitehurst is accused of killing his ex-wife Starr Mulder who disappeared in 2016. Mulder’s body was later found in the Conecuh National Forest in Covington County in 2020. Once her remains were identified, Whitehurst was arrested and charged with her murder in March 2021.

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - The bond for a suspect in the 2016 disappearance and murder of an Elmore County woman has been reduced.
Thomas Whitehurst, 65, is
charged with the murder of his live-in ex-wife, Kimberly Starr Mulder. He is accused of shooting her before leaving her body in the Conecuh National Forest in Covington County.

Thomas Whitehurst, who was accused of killing his estranged wife Starr Mulder, will now have his case be presented to a grand jury.
Mulder’s remains were found and identified in the Conecuh National Forest in March, and Whitehurst was arrested a few days after. Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin says Whitehurst was always significant suspect.
On Tuesday, Judge Glenn Goggans, found probable cause and bound the case to a grand jury.
If the grand jury indicts Whitehurst, no word on when the trial could get underway.

Thomas Whitehurst had his preliminary hearing today in Elmore County District Court in the murder of his ex-wife Starr Mulder.
She had been missing since 2016 until her body was found in March 2020 in the Conecuh National Forest in South Alabama. Once her remains were identified, Whitehurst was arrested and charged with her murder in March 2021.
District Judge Glenn Goggins found probable cause to charge Whitehurst with murder. The case has been bound over to a grand jury.
