Independent butchers are one of Ireland s culinary treasures

In the US and much of the rest of the world, the craft of cutting meat has all but disappeared, except for a few resurgent “artisan” butchers in big cities (which usually means putting up with lots of tattoos, unusual facial hair and sky-high prices). It is one of Ireland’s great culinary treasures to have such a wealth of independent meat shops. And apparently it is a treasure that a new generation of shoppers is rediscovering. According to Dave Lang, head of development for the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland, there are roughly 500 independent butchers operating here. And business has been booming since the pandemic began, as shoppers concentrate on the simpler pleasures of daily life.

Dorothy Kearney is the daughter of Christie and Thomas Kearney and has one younger sister, Grace. Dorothy has two cats, Kota and Mora, and one dog, Willow. She is a senior at Hibbing High School and will be graduating with her Associates of Arts degree through Hibbing Community College Post-Secondary Program at the same time she graduates from high school. Her biggest passion is playing year-round hockey, which she has played since she was four years old, and she will be playing collegiate hockey next year. She enjoys volunteering in her spare time and is part of the Teens Against Drugs and Alcohol (TADA) club. Her academic achievements are something she is very proud of. She is on the Dean s list, A-honor roll, and has been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa society which is an academic fraternity.

Hayden handed down the sentence to Ahmed A-Hady, of Keyport, after he pleaded guilty in October to one count of being in possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. While executing a search warrant at the pawn shop, which his father owned, authorities recovered a dozen firearms, including three AR-15 style firearms from the pawn shop and the apartment above the store where A-Hady lived. Three of the weapons were registered to A-Hady, who cannot possess them as a convicted felon.
