Aberdeen-based Safe Influx has announced that a rig trial of the industry’s first ever integration of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) and Automated Well Control technology has been completed.
Safe Influx noted that a series of pre-agreed tests were successfully performed on Weatherford’s test rig in Houston to demonstrate and verify the integration and functionality of both systems, following months of preparation by Weatherford, Safe Influx, and Finesse Control Systems - which builds the Safe Influx equipment and develops the logic programming.

Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) and
Automated Well Control technology has been completed. Following months of preparation by Weatherford, Safe Influx and Finesse Control Systems (who build the Safe Influx equipment and develop the logic programming), a series of pre-agreed tests were successfully performed on Weatherford’s test rig in Houston, to demonstrate and verify the integration and functionality of both systems.
The combination of Weatherford Victus™ intelligent MPD and Safe Influx Automated Well Control systems provides automated secondary well control which will allow wells to be drilled and constructed with the highest level of efficiency and integrity.
Safe Influx granted patent for novel Automated Well Control technology 1/6/2021
ABERDEEN - Safe Influx Ltd, a provider of Automated Well Control solutions, announced today it has been granted a patent by the United Kingdom Patent Office covering its Automated Well Control technology. The patent secures key elements of Automated Well Control technology, including a wide range of modules using the same technology.
This patent recognizes the ability of the Automated Well Control to detect the presence of a fluid influx condition in a wellbore, make a decision against criteria to shut-in, and then automatically initiate an initial well control protocol that results in the well being safely shut-in.
