ERBIL AIR BASE, Iraq â The month of April is not only known as the Month of the Military Child, but also Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). Each year the U.S. Army uses the month of April to reemphasize and remind the Army team about ongoing efforts and that sexual assault prevention remains a top priority.
The Louisiana National Guardâs 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Teamâs Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) Cpt. Ashley Williams, hosted multiple events throughout the month of April to bring awareness about sexual assault to Soldiers and Coalition Forces at Erbil Air Base (EAB). These events included a guest speaker, a proclamation signing, and a virtual 5K.

Thursday, April 15th Mayor Sykes signed a proclamation for the City of Mountain Home in support of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Peace over Violence declaring April 28th 2021 as Denim Day. This is to bring attention to the fact that sexual violence remains a serious issue in our society. They were both instituted to call attention to the misconceptions and misinformation about sexual violence, and the problem that many are disturbingly uninformed about.
It is hoped that with proper education and comprehensive prevention projects, sexual violence and its unfair and traumatizing affects can be prevented.
