Celebration of Life for Teresa (Teri) Golden to be held on June 19

A Celebration of Life for Teresa (Teri) Golden will be celebrated on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. All those who knew and loved Teri are welcome. The family hopes friends will share a short remembrance of her during the eulogy time. Teri passed away in her home on Dec. 29, 2020. She had called South Lake Tahoe since 2007 and loved this area and serving the community in many ways. She loved the outdoors and the mountains in particular. She will be missed by her family and friends. Teresa Diane Golden, known as Teri, passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2020. She was 76. Teri loved living in South Lake Tahoe. She was active in the Democratic Party, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, Christmas Cheer, the Drugstore Project, helping hikers on the Pacific Rim Trail, the AARP tax preparation, and many other endeavors. With a lack of long-term rentals and unprecedented increases in housing prices, affordable housing continues to be an issue that impacts South Lake Tahoe. From personal experiences to housing data, the discussion of the local housing crisis continues. What is often not discussed is the connection between domestic violence and housing. The intersection of domestic violence, homelessness, and housing insecurity is undeniable, as lack of safe and affordable housing is often reported as one of the primary barriers survivors of domestic violence face when they choose to leave an abusive partner. Across the United States, domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for survivors. Between 22 and 57 percent of homelessness among women is caused by domestic violence.
