The National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City. DIOCESE OF ANTIPOLO
In a letter addressed to Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, CBCP President Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles noted how the National Shrine of Our Lady is considered a prime pilgrim Church in the country where many devotees experienced the Blessed Mother’s special presence.
“It is undeniable that the National Shrine of Our Lady is considered a prime pilgrim Church of the Philippines because of the countless devotees and pilgrims who have come and experienced the special presence of the Blessed Mother in their life through the pastoral care of pilgrims in this Shrine,” he said in the letter dated July 26.

“With grateful sentiments, we, the Myanmar Catholics, deeply appreciate the communion of the Church in Philippines through its prayer day on July19,” he said in his July 18 letter to Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Bo added that their fellowship at these very challenging times was a “moving gesture.”
“Our people face threefold existential threats to their dignity: coup, COVID and collapse of the economy. The tragic Way of the Cross our people tread for the last five months has been an excruciating period of anguish. Hundreds died in the conflict, COVID waves carried away unknown numbers, to be buried unsung and unwept in their last moments,” he said.
Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David (COURTESY OF RYAN REZO/DIOCESE OF KALOOKAN)
CBCP News said the prelate was elected Thursday, July 8, during the bishops’ two-day online plenary assembly.
David, the current vice president of the CBCP, will replace Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao.
Ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Fernando in 1983, the 62-year old prelate is known as one of the country’s leading Bible scholars.
In 2006, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese, a post he served for around 14 years until he was transferred to the Kalookan diocese in January 2016.
David also previously chaired the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate and was also among the five Filipino bishop delegates to the Synod of Bishops on the Word of God in the Vatican in 2008.
