I recently received a letter in the mail from the New York State Department of Labor. It was titled Unemployment Insurance Monetary Benefit Determination. My first thought was if this had anything to do with the fact that I didn t have any gigs as a Mobile DJ during the pandemic.
Since I work full time at WAAL, I figured that was the only thing it could be about. The letter was five pages long. The reason for the letter was, I did not meet the earnings required to qualify for unemployment insurance benefits using either the basic or alternate base period.

GLOVERSVILLE The Fulton Center for Regional Growth has received an enthusiastic response for Gloversville’s Hometown Hero Banner Program, which is looking for applications in by May 1.
“Absolutely,” says Downtown Gloversville Development Specialist James Hannahs. “We’ve been getting really heavy interest across the community.”
Hannahs noted that applications can be for any veteran who has served over the years. He said the interest has been chronologically across the board. But, he said a big response has been especially received from those wishing to honor World War II and Vietnam War heroes.
A news release issued Tuesday by the CRG indicated applications for the Gloversville’s Hometown Hero Banner Program must be turned in by May 1 to be unveiled during a May 28 ceremony.

GLOVERSVILLE Â With the official launching of the Hometown Heroes banner program, locals have a chance to honor service members while also helping beautify downtown through purchasing commemorative banners.
The banners will hang on city-owned lampposts throughout the downtown core and will feature the veteran’s names, rank, years served, photo, and earned medals.
The design of the banners is meant to honor combat veterans while seamlessly adding to the historic aesthetic of downtown’s existing architecture.

I am morally compelled to respond to Fulton County Republican Chairwoman Sue McNeil’s absolutely repugnant comments, in the Jan. 8, Leader Herald, regarding U.S. 21st District Representative Elise Stefanik’s seditious conduct at the U.S. Capital on Jan. 6. I understand that many of Ms. Stefanik’s constituents were bitterly disappointed by Donald Trump’s election loss. I was likewise devastated by his win in 2016. That does not justify her attempting to help facilitate a coup. In America, you do not get to overturn a legally conducted and comprehensively vetted and adjudicated election because you are displeased with the result.

Harold Franklin Laird Sr., 80, of Gloversville, New York, passed away on December 15, 2020, while visiting his daughter and son in Houston, Texas. Harold was a loving and dedicated father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. Harold was well known throughout Gloversville and neighboring communities as he was admired for having a warm, kind, charismatic personality.
He always made himself available, often giving back to the community and all who met him have fond memories of shared stories and laughter in their exchange. Many never knew, when they saw Harold with his infectious smile and willingness to stop for a coffee or conversation that he fought a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
