ISLAMABAD: The Pay and Pension Commission, led by Nargis Sethi, has submitted its interim report before the government just ahead of the upcoming budget and recommended raise in both salaries and pension for public sector employees for the upcoming budget.
The government has decided to increase salaries in the range of 15 to 20 percent with a clear-cut purpose to reduce disparity within ministries/divisions and departments and introduction of contributory pension for new recruitments during the upcoming budget.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin Friday directed the Pay and Pension Commission to chalk out short, medium and long term plans for reformation of pay and pension system in the public sector over a period of time. During a meeting with Chairperson Pay and Pension Commission, Nargis Sethi, who called on him here, the finance minister appreciated the efforts being made by the commission for streamlining the prevailing system of emoluments based on principles of equity, fairness and transparency. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Waqar Masood Khan and Secretary Finance Division were also present during the meeting.

ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Pay and Pension Commission Nargis Sethi has said that they would prepare an implementation plan along with a detailed report in order to give way forward to the government. A total of 29 Pay and Pension Commission/Committees were formed since the country’s inception but with no tangible impact.
“It is time for serious reforms, or we would not be able to cope with the contemporary requirements for governance and a few years down the lane, the bureaucratic apparatus would be gearing faster towards dysfunctionality,” stated the findings of a research report on civil service reforms launched by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) here on Thursday. The report was prepared by PIDE team under the supervision of economist Dr Durre Nayab along with others in collaboration with the support of UNDP.

Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, Industries and Production, Muhammad Hammad Azhar Tuesday underlined the importance of introducing rationalized pay and pension system to remove anomalies and ensure equity. The minister was talking to the Chairperson Pay and Pension Commission Nargis Sethi, who called on him here while Finance Secretary also participated in the meeting. The minister said that the current model for disbursements of Pay and Pensions was not sustainable and there was a need to rationalize salaries, pensions, allowances, perks etc by removing anomalies to ensure equity. He stressed for finding a way forward which is transparent, feasible and sustainable in the long run. He extended full support and facilitation to the commission on the occasion. He said that the Pay and Pension Commission had a very challenging task ahead as the federal and provincial governments’ employees were looking forward with great hope towards the recommendation
