One person is dead after a fire on a second-floor apartment near downtown Hamilton.
Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe says firefighters were called to 301 Mary St. around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Heavy smoke billowed from an apartment on the upper floor of the two-storey building, Cunliffe says. Firefighters learned someone was still inside.
Crews did an aggressive search and rescue and found someone dead on the second floor, Cunliffe said in a media release.
