From October 2015 to October 2020, 186 growing operations were stopped by police in the borough. The figures show a roughly equal number for each full year recorded - 37 in 2016, 39 in 2017, 35 in 2018, 37 in 2019 and 29 up until November in 2020. Cannabis, a class-B drug, has a hugely detrimental impact on local communities, according to Chief Inspector Mike Brennan of GMP s Bury district. He said that the work to locate and destroy cannabis farms shows GMP s officers are taking a proactive approach in combatting the supply of drugs. He added: Last year in Bury, we seized a significant amount of drugs from criminals. By taking these drugs off the streets we have made our communities safer, by not only reducing the number of people exposed to the drugs themselves but the resulting criminal activity.
