RAJKOT: Gir-Somnath district police arrested four members of the notorious Chikhligar gang of burglars who have been a menace with several house break-ins in Veraval and Talala region.
Veraval town police arrested Madan Singh alias Harajit Singh Dudhani (35), a resident of Vadodara, Joginder Singh Bhand, a resident of Bharuch, Gurmukh Singh, a resident of Vadodara, and Hardayal Singh Tilmtiya, a resident of Mendarda town of Junagadh district.
“On the night of July 20, Madan Singh and three others went to Veraval town in a car and burgled four houses, decamping with Rs 90,000 worth valubales from one of the houses. A complaint of theft was lodged by Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Shivaji Nagar of Veraval town a day after the house break-in. On July 21, the gang struck at five more houses in Talala town and escaped from the spot,” said the police.
Heavy rains drench Rajkot city late on Saturday evening
Rajkot: After a break, heavy rains lashed various parts of Saurashtra on Saturday. As per information received, heavy rains were witnessed at Rajkot, Dhoraji Gondal and parts of Gir Somnath district. Also, a woman in Amreli district died of lightning.
A 42-year-old woman identified as Vimla Chudsama from a village of Liliya taluka of Amreli district died after being struck by lightning. Liliya and Babra taluka of Amreli district were lashed by rains on Saturday.
In Dhoraji town too, heavy rains disrupted normal life on Saturday. Many roads were left waterlogged in the town and rain water also gushed inside several commercial establishments. In Rajkot city, rains lashed several areas like Yagnik road, Morbi road, Kalavad road and Sorathiyavadi. Many villages in Gondal taluka too witnessed rains.

Amreli (Gujarat) [India], May 24 (ANI): The strong winds and intense rainfall when Cyclone Tauktae made a landfall recently damaged mango trees and fruits in Amreli and other mango-producing districts in Gujarat.
According to the farmers, the mango business has gone back 10 to 25 years due to the recent cyclone, which has caused a huge financial loss to the owners of mango orchards.
Jignesh Gajera, a farmer, said that due to the unseasonal rain and strong winds in this cyclone, mango fruits of the entire district were damaged and the trees too were uprooted from the roots. The district administration is in the process of assessing the damage caused by this cyclone.
