Ministry that helps the needy may have to move again
After almost a year and a half of serving the Freeland community, their building is up for sale and the mission of providing help to the hungry is in jeopardy. Author: Amanda Eustice (WNEP) Updated: 5:49 PM EDT July 28, 2021
FREELAND, Pa. Wednesday was restocking day at Common Ground Ministries in Freeland, and it could be the last. After almost a year and a half of serving the community, the building the ministry works out of is up for sale, and the mission is in jeopardy. We don t mind serving, but the transition is usually very rough, so were praying this time around we can get more stable as far as securing our own building, so this way it gives us a little more handle on our future, said Pastor Everett Upton of Common Ground Ministries.

During the 2nd Annual Winter Extravaganza and Stuff the Bus held Dec. 9 by Waxahachie High School, donation items were collected to benefit local organizations in the Ellis County area. Last year we started it because the bonfire got canceled and the kids wanted to do something to replace the bonfire. We really wanted to start a new tradition. So we started a senior tradition, shared Waxahachie High School Principal Tonya Harris. What it is, is it s sponsored by our senior class. For about a month, they encourage people to donate scarves and hats and gloves and socks and blankets and canned nonperishable food items. We donate all that stuff to local area charities.
