Square Enix is hosting a 14-hour-long livestream to celebrate Final Fantasy XIV, and a couple of interesting collaborations have been announced.
First of all, Japanese convenience store chain Lawson will get another chance at creating the game’s official Karaage Kun fried chicken.
The delicious (I’m assuming, but the original flavor was good) nuggets will come in a special “Light and Dark Crystal Flavor.” It’ll actually include two flavored layers, one will taste like dark petter, and the second will be flavored with light tartar sauce.

Do you known the symbolism of Daruma dolls?
Every culture has their own good luck talismans and in Japan, Daruma Dolls are one of the most prominent examples. Daruma Dolls are modeled off of Bodhidharma, who s the founder of the Zen tradition in Buddhism. Bodhidharma was a monk who lived in China during the 5th century and is credited with bringing kungfu with the Shaolin Monastery.
These dolls are often red, however, other colors may be more prominent depending on the region or the artist. They re seen as a symbol of preservation and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement and setting goals.

Cartoon characters have become Japan’s most important cultural export, and I’ve heard that the total sales abroad of anime, manga and their related merchandise have grown to surpass even those of the automobile industry. Anpanman, Doraemon, Ultraman, Pikachu and their friends have become hugely popular, even household names, not only in Japan, but in many countries around the globe, as Japanese artists continue to prove that this Land of the Cult of the KAWAII (cute), is THE major comic-book and cartoon character powerhouse in the world. In addition, nearly every major event, sports team, train line etc., has its own mascot character.

It is customary for Japanese families with daughters to pack up and put away the Hina Doll sets they had been displaying for the March 3rd Doll festival on the VERY NEXT DAY after the festival (March 4th). You might notice how in a strangely similar fashion most of the Santa-Sans and other X-Mas decorations which could be seen around Tsukuba leading up to Christmas Day will have been whisked out of sight by the end of December 26th, as most Tsukubans ( and Japanese in general) start getting down to the very serious business of preparing for O-Shogatsu, the Japanese New Year’s festival.
