Rita Humphries-Lewin
Rita Humphries-Lewin, who became the first woman to chair the Jamaica Stock Exchange and the first female chair a stock exchange in the Caribbean, has retired from the financial industry after a stellar career spanning almost 50 years.
“After almost five decades of being part of the financial services sector I have decided to retire from the industry and my post as a Director on the Board of Barita for succession planning and personal reasons,” Humphries-Lewin stated in a news release Friday.
Her retirement and resignation from the Board of Barita Investments Limited, took effect on Wednesday, January 27.
The 84-year-old Humphries-Lewin who founded Barita in 1977 and oversaw its growth from a small stockbrokerage outfit to a large full-service investment bank, said the entity had fulfilled its original objective of creating wealth for ordinary Jamaicans, and was now in good hands for the future.
