Second person charged with second-degree murder in death of Tamara Benoit

  WINNIPEG A second person has been arrested and charged in connection to the homicide of a Manitoba woman whose remains were found in Portage la Prairie. On Friday, officers from the RCMP and the Manitoba First Nation Police Service arrested 36-year-old Tova Jeanine Peters at a Winnipeg residence and charged them with second-degree murder and accessory after the fact to murder in connection to the death of Tamara Benoit (Norman). The charges have not been proven in court. This comes one day after Mounties announced they had arrested 37-year-old Ryan Peters, who is facing the same charges, as well as a 15-year-old boy who was later released without charges.

Benoit was reported missing to the Winnipeg Police Service on July 10, 2020, and was last seen in the Portage la Prairie and Long Plain First Nation area on May 23, 2020. Second-degree murder charge laid in homicide of Tamara Benoit

  WINNIPEG RCMP have charged one man in connection with the homicide of a woman whose remains were found near Portage la Prairie last year. During a news conference on Thursday, Supt. Michael Koppang with the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit announced Ryan Peters, 37, has been charged with second-degree murder and accessory after the fact in connection with the death of Tamara Benoit (Norman) in 2020. Peters, who is from Long Plain First Nation, remains in custody. The charge has not been proven in court. “Ryan was known to Tamara, and this was not a random act of violence,” Koppang said, though he added due to the case being before the courts, he could not speak about the motive.

On September 3, 2020, human remains were located near Cottonwood Drive, in the RM of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The remains were identified as 36-year-old Tamara Benoit (Norman), and her death is being investigated as a homicide. Tamara was reported missing on July 10, 2020, from Winnipeg Manitoba.  Through the investigation, it was learned she was last seen in the Portage la Prairie area on May 23, 2020.   Police are looking for the assistance of the public in locating and speaking with anyone who may have been with or seen Tamara prior to her death. Police know Tamara was a passenger in a black Dodge Ram truck, as seen in the below photo, and are interested in speaking with the driver and any other occupants of the truck.
