(WAFB) - Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) say a five-year veteran officer has been arrested after a domestic battery incident that occurred on May 6. Brandon Taylor, 35, was arrested on May 11 by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office on one count each of theft and battery of a dating partner, according to arrest records from the sheriff’s office. Brandon Taylor (Source: BRPD) The victim said Taylor took her birthday gifts that her friends gave her and refused to give them back. The gifts were valued at $1,370. The victim said Taylor also stole her ankle bracelet valued at $250 earlier that day, according to the arrest report.

(WAFB) - Attorney Michael Fontenot has been arrested by the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, accused of smuggling drugs into the West Baton Rouge Jail. Fontenot faces two felony counts, including criminal conspiracy and contraband. Phone calls between an inmate at the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison were recorded and listened to by investigators with WBRSO. During one of those phone calls on March 30, 2021, the inmate asks Fontenot if he would be willing to give narcotics to a delivery person in order for that person to smuggle the drugs in the West Baton Rouge Work Release Center.

3-month-old baby died from gunshot wound after shootout on interstate

    BILOXI, Mississipi (WALA) A 3-month-old child injured during a police chase and shootout in south Mississippi on Monday has died, according to the coroner in Harrison County. Brian Switzer, from Harrison County Coroner, says the 3 month old baby died from a single gunshot wound. He will turn over his findings to the Biloxi Police Department and Harrison DA’s Office to determine where the bullet came from. The baby suffered injuries as his father, Eric Derell Smith, died of multiple gunshot wounds following a vehicle pursuit with authorities. Smith was wanted in two killings in Louisiana. Law enforcement officials from Gulfport and Harrison County and also state troopers with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol took part in the pursuit that led to the deadly shootout.
