Ian Jobling:
The honorary director of University of Queensland s Centre of Olympic Studies and Noosa local said he thought it was a smart approach to try and leverage the Games bid to deliver a venue.
He said more than $2 billion worth of infrastructure funding would be available from the International Olympic Committee for the 2032 edition and the focus was now on helping deliver legacy projects to regional areas.
Dr Jobling said a performing arts centre in the Maroochydore CBD could double as a host venue for the likes of weightlifting and other events. ....

A commercial property in a prime beachfront location part-owned by Mayor Mark Jamieson has been snapped up by a high-profile developer.
Long-time Mooloolaba developer Rod Forrester confirmed he and his wife had splashed more than $5m to secure 123 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba - a property owned by LSJD Projects which is directed by Ken Guy, Mark Jamieson, Doug Meecham and Ron Milne.
Yeah we ve bought it, he said.
It ll be an investment for now and down the line we ll look to redevelop it. ....

While the rain persists, the weather bureau says we have escaped the brunt of a low north of the Sunshine Coast. Chances of showers remain very high with south-easterly winds of 15 to 25 km/h tending southerly and speeding up slightly in the morning.
Severe Weather situation in SE QLD has eased, with a subtropical low and heaviest rainfall staying offshore. Widespread heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding is no longer expected, light to moderate falls will continue today, easing tomorrow.
Temperatures are expected to reach 25C across the Coast, accept in Maleny where it will be slightly cooler at 22C. ....
