Giant strides of Oyo govt in ICT infrastructure, trainings

Share While some state governments are yet to realise the importance of Information and Communications Technology ICT) to the development of their state’s economy and tne people,  the Oyo state government has taken it upon itself to build a digital economy through massive deployment of ICT infrastructure and digital skills training for civil servants in the state. These, according to the Special Assistant to the governor on ICT and E-governance, Mr. Adebayo Akande, have led to the digitisation of many government services in the last two years of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration. Highlighting some of the critical projects that have set the state on the right path to digitisation, Akande said the administration kick-started with the mass training of civil servants in digital skills and use of the digital collaborative and productivity tools. In addition, he said the government also rolled out official email addresses with @oyostate.gov.ng extension for all civil servants

The DG said the state which has over 400 startups in Lagos state could emerge as the African digital economy hub if enabling environment is created. The NITDA DG disclosed this when he led his management staff on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State’s Government House in Ikeja.

The Director General of the agency, Mallam Abdullahi Kashifu, announced this during the NITDA @20 Anniversary conference held in Abuja on Monday. He informed that the new roadmap was designed to make the IT sector the leading sector of the economy, create more activities and ignite a lot of innovations in the IT sector, help create enabling environment and also position Nigeria to tap into the 4th industrial revolution.
