The Election Commission late on Sunday declared Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Suvendu Adhikari as the winner in West Bengal’s Nandigram constituency.

The National Investigating Agency has summoned Baldev Singh Sirsa, a farmers’ union head, for questioning on January 17, in connection with a case registered against a leader of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice, reported
The Indian Express on Saturday. Sirsa is the president of Lok Bhalai Insaf Welfare Society, one of the unions protesting against the Centre’s farm laws.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday spoke in support of the farmers’ protest in Delhi against the Centre’s farm laws, saying that his country will always defend the rights of peaceful protestors.
“The situation [from the protest] is concerning,” he said at an online event to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. “We’re all very worried about family and friends. We know that’s a reality for many of you. Let me remind you, Canada will always be there to defend the rights of peaceful protestors.”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday mocked Union minister Raosaheb Danve for his comment that China and Pakistan were behind the farmers’ protests against the Centre’s three agricultural laws, ANI reported. Raut said that the Narendra Modi government should immediately conduct a surgical strike on the two neighbouring countries if it had any such information.
“If a Union minister has information that China and Pakistan have a hand behind farmers agitation, then, the defence minister should immediately conduct a surgical strike on China and Pakistan,” Raut was quoted as saying by the news agency. “The president, PM [prime minister], HM [home minister and the chiefs of the Armed Forces should discuss this issue seriously.”
