Environment Minister David Parker says Lake Horowhenua is badly degraded because of pollution and poor management. “The wetland project itself will improve water quality and the habitat for native fish, birds and plant species, while also providing jobs and recreational opportunities for the community.” The project received $11.2 million from the Government’s Jobs for Nature programme, towards the total cost of $12.5 million. The 142 hectare farm land was purchased for $6.7m, and Horizons Regional Council contributed $1m. The council would own the land when the project was completed. It was expected to create up to 45 full-time equivalent jobs over four years.

new wetland restoration project near Lake Horowhenua, and
calling for strong rules for wetlands and freshwater
protection around the country. The Horowhenua branch
of Forest & Bird have been working for years to plant
native vegetation at Lake Papaitonga. We re excited to see
their important work become part of a larger project to
restore wetlands and bring back Lake Horowhenua from

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Duke Energy has presented the Alachua County Trust with a five thousand dollar check to improve the infrastructure at the Orange Lake Overlook.
Duke Energy has partnered with many organizations that preserve natural resources and benefit the ecology of natural areas, according to communications manager Dorothy Pernu.
“It was a natural fit for us to collaborate with the Alachua Conservation Trust. They are making impacts not just in this region, but also beyond throughout Florida,” Pernu said.
