CONWAY â The town met in closed session Tuesday to interview a candidate for the vacant town planning director position and is still in negotiations with the candidate, according to Town Manager Tom Holmes.
âWe posted the meeting, and selectmen and I met in closed session with the candidate for an interview yesterday at the old town hall in Center Conway. I am still negotiating with the candidate,â Holmes told the Sun Wednesday afternoon.
All he would say is that it is a male candidate from Rhode Island.
On Tuesday, Holmes told the Sun that their former top pick, a female candidate from Vermont, had withdrawn her application because her current employer in an unstated New Hampshire town had made it clear to her that they wanted her to stay in their employ.

Selectmen voted last week to let outdoor dining continue through Dec. 1 even though the governor’s emergency order that originally enabled it has expired.
Last May, in response to state pandemic guidelines that allowed restaurants to offer outdoor dining, a permitting process was instituted in the town, administered by John Eastman, Conway Parks and Recreation director.
At a meeting in March, selectmen decided to give restaurants the option to continue outdoor dining if they refiled for another permit.
CONWAY â One of the most expansive projects to come before the Conway Planning Board in years is Ridgeline Communities, being developed by Continuum Health Services of Lewiston, Maine, founded and owned by Joe Hogan of Standish, Maine.
Project manager Mike Black said his local team of engineers have been working closely over the past four years with Bayard Kennett of the Kennett Co. and town officials, including Town Planner Tom Irving and Town Engineer Paul DegliAngeli.
âWe are very excited about this project as we feel that we will be offering a lot to many different groups and ages, and meeting several needs in the valley for care and housing,â said Black.
