“We have a number of outfielders who are all good enough athletes to play center field,” Bloom said Dec. 14. “But we still have room to augment that with a center fielder or with a corner outfielder.”
But as the roster stands right now, Bloom said Verdugo, Andrew Benintendi and Hunter Renfroe all are capable of playing center field and Verdugo is the most suited.

Pereda was named 2020-21 Venezuelan Winter League Rookie of the Year on Saturday.
The Venezuela native went 45-for-133 (.338) with a .421 on-base percentage, .421 slugging percentage, .842 OPS, one home run, eight doubles, 16 RBIs and 16 runs in 39 games (153 plate appearances) for Caracas.
He also threw out 6-of-13 base stealers (46%). He started 22 games at catcher and 14 games at first base.
