Government to meet with business organisations 24/05/2021:   The Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley, has directed that a Meeting of Government Ministers under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart Young be held with representatives of various business organisations to discuss Covid-19 related business concerns. This meeting will take place virtually on  Wednesday 26 May, 2021 at 10am. Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force appointed 19/05/2021: Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, appointed eleven (11) members to the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force (AITTF) at its Inaugural  Virtual Meeting on May 17, 2021.  Speaking to the newly appointed members Minister Gopee-Scoon said, “ Public-private partnership is key to combatting illicit trade. The installation of this Task Force is a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to a holistic and coordinated approach to combatting illicit trade which has been increasing in Trinidad and Tobago and consequently affects our legitimate local businesses.” Underscoring the important role the Task Force has to play in mitigating the impact of illicit trade she added that “

New CARICOM manufacturing body gets to work Article by by Marlon Madden A new regional manufacturers association has been launched in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to help promote regional manufacturers. The founding members are the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association (BMA), the Dominican Manufacturers’ Association, the Guyana Manufacturers’ and Services Association, the Jamaica Manufacturers’ and Exporters Association, the St Lucia Manufacturers’ Association and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association. The arrangement was cemented during a recent virtual signing ceremony between the six associations. The new CARICOM Manufacturers’ Association (CMA) will be chaired by President of the BMA Robert Noel, and the Vice President is the President of the Dominica Manufacturer’s Association.
