Ortom names CPS, others as likely successors - Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 15 June 2021 BENUE State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has named his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon. Titus Uba, Dr Paul Ubwa, Dondu Ahire, Dr Robert Orya and his Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, among those likely to succeed him in office. Ortom, revealed these names while speaking at an event at the JS Tarka Institute of Political Studies Gboko, on Sunday. He spoke just as several stalwarts of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party were expressing interest in taking over from him at the expiration of his term in 2023. Ortom also received many members of the opposition All Progressive Congress, who were led by Joseph Kaaba and Emmanuel Kwaghgba who were introduced as some of those who had signified interest in governing the state.

Herdsmen Killings: Defend yourselves, Ortom tells Benue people

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Friday, reiterated his call to people of the state to rise and defend themselves from external attacks, particularly by militia herdsmen. Ortom made the call at Adoka in the Otukpo Local Government Area of the state during an address at the funeral of Mama Enenu Ebute, the mother-in-law of the Deputy Governor, Mr Benson Abounu. The governor described Israel as the chosen heritage of God, saying it did not allow its people to be killed in such a manner without defence. He said, “Our people have had enough of these killings and they should rise to defend themselves against any external attack. We need to live.”

The Governor who spoke Friday while feting widows, orphans the disabled and children with special needs in Makurdi on his 60th birthday anniversary commended Benue people for standing with him at all times. He said he had to celebrate with the selected people to give them a sense of belonging, hope and reassurance that they were integral part of the society and also deserved to be accorded desired attention.

Insecurity: I owe no one apology for speaking truth to Nigerians

By Peter Duru Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State yesterday said he has no apologies for anyone particularly those in positions of authority for speaking the truth to Nigerians. He reiterated that he would also not be intimidated into submission provided he had the backing of his people and majority of Nigerians. He pointed out that the acceptance of ranching in the business of animal husbandry by many in the country was a major breakthrough in his agitation to check the crisis and killings in parts of the country. The Governor spoke in his home town, Tse-Adorogo, Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, LGA, of the state during a funeral oration at the burial of his uncle, Mr. Samuel Atule who died recently.
