Sioux City Orpheum Theatre announces 2021-2022 lineup for 'Broadway at the Orpheum'

1:41 The head of Sioux City’s NAACP reflects on the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd. “We have seen change that people are talking about, but I don’t know we can put our teeth into it, because things are still happening.” That is Ike Rayford who is talking about incidents involving injustice against Black men across the country. He say accountability is important and is happening in the case surrounding Officer Dereck Chauvin convicted in the murder of  George Floyd and the upcoming litigation involving the other officers in the case. Rayford says he is satisfied with tranparancy shown by local law enforcement. The Sioux City Police Department started using body cameras late last year.

SPM NEWS 5.4.21 - 5:32PM State health officials have confirmed two cases of a COVID-19 variant, commonly known as the India variant, in Iowa. The cases were identified in two adults in Jefferson County in southeast Iowa. Officials say they are still learning about the characteristics of the strain. But they say there is no evidence it is more easily transmitted or more likely to cause severe illness. The UK and Brazilian COVID-19 variants also have been previously identified in the state. These strains  are believed to be more easily transmitted. But scientists say all approved vaccines are effective against them.

Bravo to Jamestown High School LifeSmarts team for national title win

Bravo to engraved pavers lending a little history to people s walk in downtown Jamestown. 7:00 am, Apr. 24, 2021 × The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week: Bravo to the 2020 Jamestown High School LifeSmarts team, which won the National LifeSmarts Championship on Monday. The team, including three JHS graduates, defeated Rhode Island in the semifinal round and Pennsylvania in the championship round to win. This is the first national win for a JHS team, which represented North Dakota in the event. Bravo to engraved paver stones being part of the road diet project in Jamestown. The pavers that will be part of the pedestrian bumpouts on First Avenue will add a bit of information on our history where people are walking in the downtown.
