Former Davidson County Commissioner Zak Crotts tells Carolina Journal he is exploring a possible run for Congress in the district. “It is something that I am thinking about, talking to people and seeing where things go. Of course, we have to see what the district looks like. I have always had a desire to serve others. I did so in the military and within the Republican party as well as an elected official in Davidson County. If I don’t run, I will do as I have in the past; work day and night to keep this seat in Republican hands.”

The Dispatch Davidson-Davie Community College students have another way to advance their education by transfer to Lees-McRae College, a four-year school located in Banner Elk, after college officials signed an agreement last week. Both college presidents signed the agreement in a signing ceremony Friday, April 9. “We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Lees-McRae College,” said Dr. Darrin Hartness, Davidson-Davie president. “Knowing that we can offer our students another path to an affordable, four-year education, through guaranteed admission to a school with so many program opportunities, is very important to us.” Called a comprehensive articulation agreement, the partnership between Davidson-Davie and Lees-McRae includes guaranteed admission for those who earn their associate degrees at Davidson-Davie. Billie Everhart Garrett passed at her home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 after recently being hospitalized for an extended period of time. She is survived by her husband Rick; their son, Zach (Hannah); a precious granddaughter, Elana; an adoptive granddaughter, Emmilyse Hoilman; sisters, Jill Leonard (Andy), Tammy Yarborough, and Mary Spake (Carl); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her cat, Muffin. Billie valued greatly her family, friends, and pets. She was originally from Lexington, North Carolina and the daughter of the late Hazel Myers Everhart and Sam Eugene Everhart, Jr. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School and attended Davidson County Community College. She served in Raleigh as a Teacher’s Assistant with the Wake County School System after leaving Davidson County.
