Two and Four-Legged partners take on 4-H dog agility competition By: Sam Hoyle and last updated 2021-07-28 20:30:33-04 HELENA — On Wednesday morning, 18 trainers and 19 dogs competed in 4-H dog agility at the Last Chance Stampede and Fair, with a variety of dogs competing. While there are certain breeds that are sought after for competitions like this, a handful of competitors showed it really doesn t matter what kind of dog it is, the training and patience put in that makes a difference. Some dogs are more show dogs than agility dogs, but you can do anything with your dog if you just work with them, said Emma Chiti with her five-year-old Newfoundland named Sophie. She s always been such a happy, excited dog. She loves me and I love her and I guess that really helps our bond.

The Corvallis bus gamble: Fareless city transit service celebrates 10th year

Ten years ago this week the city of Corvallis began an exotic experiment: fareless transit. As in no money or tokens or transfers or coupons change hands when you board a Corvallis Transit System bus. The response was tremendous, said Tim Bates, the city’s transit coordinator. “We experienced a 39% increase in ridership the first year that we were fareless,” Bates said. “We had to tweak some of the service to keep up with demand. Passengers were thrilled that they no longer had to have exact change or keep track of their coupons/passes.” Passengers are thrilled these days because neither the coupons nor the coin exchanges is a good idea during a pandemic.
