5 things to do this week: Ashland Film Fest, Portland Opera, and 30 days of Doggie Dash

As we move deeper into spring, more outdoor activities are cropping up. The Oregon Humane Society’s annual Doggie Dash morphs into a monthlong event with ideas for getting outdoors and helping raise funds for the shelter. We’ve also found several classical music events and a streaming film festival out of Ashland.

Portland Opera presents an evening of art, song, opera, and short pieces about love, justice, and experiences of being a Black American. The collection was curated by Portland Opera artistic adviser Damien Geter and will be directed by Chip Miller, associate artistic director at Portland Center Stage. Kansas City's Classical Connection To The 2021 Grammy Awards

A handful of classical artists with Kansas City connections were nominated for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, with the premiere ceremony held virtually on March 14th.
David Frost won the Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Classical. Among his many albums, he produced the Kansas City Symphony’s “Holst: The Planets and The Perfect Fool,” conducted by Michael Stern, with Reference Recordings.
Stern and The Kansas City Symphony have worked with Frost on multiple projects.
“It’s incredible to have Reference Recordings as our partners-in-crime because they are devoted to the highest standard of recordings,” says Stern. “Hats off to David Frost, hats off to Reference, and of course, to all my friends and colleagues in the Kansas City Symphony.” ....

Here's How Kansas City Musicians Did At The Grammys In 2021

The 63rd annual Grammy Awards are scheduled to air on Sunday at 7 p.m. on CBS and online. At least seven Kansas City artists were nominated or contributed to Grammy-nominated recordings.
Starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, some of the winners, including ones with ties to Kansas City, were announced during a Grammy Awards premiere ceremony, which was streamed live.
