Port, at 60, unveils new brand identity, green energy push

Barbados Port Inc., the state-owned corporation of the Port of Bridgetown, has officially rebranded as the port marked its 60th anniversary Thursday, declaring it is now positioning itself to become one of the world’s highest-rated green maritime ports, its CEO said.
David Jean-Marie made the comment as he addressed the unveiling of the new corporate identity and logo for the BPI at its Blue Cube headquarters on Thursday.
Jean-Marie said that the new corporate identity is in line with the BPI’s objectives of increasing its efficiency and capabilities to international standards.

BARBADOS’ PORT is set to become the trans-shipment hub of the Caribbean.
During the Barbados Port Inc.’s 60th anniversary celebrations time capsule ceremony yesterday at Cube Blue, University Row, Bridgetown, Minister of Maritime Affairs Kirk Humphrey said the port was evolving and one of the more significant advancements was becoming a regional hub.
“To counter the negative impacts of COVID-19, ports around the world are moving towards new dynamic approaches to development and efficiency. They are building specialised facilities, developing multi-purpose terminals and focusing on becoming large-scale hubs,” he said.
Blue economy ministry touts achievements from new home

The first-ever Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy has made significant improvements to fisheries, fish markets and shipping legislation since its appearance in the Mia Mottley administration, Minister Kirk Humphrey declared Monday.
He made the comments at a consecration ceremony for the ministry’s new headquarters on the ground floor of Cube Blue, located in the new Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) building.
Humphrey pointed to ongoing work to improve the jetties at the Bridgetown Fishing Complex and the Berinda Cox Fish Market and the markets at Pile Bay, St Michael, Weston, St James and Consett Bay, St John.

The Port of Bridgetown is leading the charge towards the reduction of carbon emissions and environmental sustainability in maritime operations in the region.
The Port recently welcomed two new diesel-electric hybrid Straddle Carriers, the first ever in the Caribbean.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, in commenting on the new acquisitions, hailed the Port of Bridgetown as a leading light in the maritime industry’s push for a greener, cleaner future.

Two new diesel-electric hybrid Straddle Carriers at the Port of Bridgetown are expected to help improve operations in terms of environmental sustainability, savings on fuel and wait times.
The Port of Bridgetown is working towards the reduction of carbon emissions and environmental sustainability and sourced the equipment via the Miami-based Oceanland Equipment LLC, from manufacturers, Kalmar.
The equipment came from Poland and was received on Friday, February 5.
