Per ESPN s Adam Schefter, the three-time Pro Bowler is visiting with Lions coaches Thursday.
Gurley is familiar with Lions quarterback Jared Goff from their time as teammates with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Lions have two starting-caliber running backs. D Andre Swift is poised to take over as the No. 1 guy after splitting carries with Adrian Peterson last season.
Detroit also signed Jamaal Williams to a two-year contract when free agency began in March. The 26-year-old had 2,946 yards from scrimmage and 18 total touchdowns in four seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

Fox Sports Shannon Sharpe may have landed one of the scoops of the offseason by calling up Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones on live TV to ask if he s seeking a trade, but the fallout is only beginning to reveal itself.
Undisputed as well as Jones response though it remains unclear if the receiver knew the call was airing on live TV.
Not only did sources tell FSO the interview has undercut their negotiating position in potential trades for Jones, but Fox one of the league s broadcast partners could face consequences from the league when it comes to future media access.

Dante Bichette had an interesting career, and the best thing that ever happened to him was undoubtedly getting traded to the expansion Colorado Rockies ahead of the 1993 season. Prior to that Bichette had given uneasy results for both the Angels and Brewers, but things really changed for him in the mid 90s. The big right-handed slugger crushed the first homer in Rockies franchise history that April, and he d go on to play in four all-star games in their uniform. His best overall season was probably 1996, when he homered 31 times, stole 31 bases, and drove in 141 runs. Today his son Bo stars at shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hank Aaron, a hero of baseball and of civil rights, is being buried in Atlanta Wednesday, drawing friends, family and sports luminaries to say farewell to the widely respected slugger and activist.
Aaron s wife, Billye, their family and friends gathered in church and online to celebrate the man that Friendship Baptist Church Pastor Richard W. Wills Sr. called this iconic marvel from Mobile.
Aaron s grandchildren and his close friends spoke at the funeral service, as did MLB Commissioner Emeritus Bud Selig and former President Bill Clinton. Former President Jimmy Carter, veteran broadcaster Bob Costas and others delivered their remarks through online video.
