Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Payne announced the promotion of Captain Kristen Rogers to deputy chief of police.
“This is a very exciting time for the Grand Rapids Police Department,” Payne said. “Not only is Deputy Chief Rogers making history by being the first woman to hold the position, she is a talented and experienced leader who will serve Grand Rapids well in the years to come.”
Rogers steps into the role as the department navigates a pandemic, unprecedented levels of violent crime and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan.
“The city of Grand Rapids is fortunate to have someone of her caliber, passion and heart for service attending to the community,” said former Deputy Chief David Kiddle, who is retiring from the department after 28 years of service. “I have no doubt that Deputy Chief Rogers will not only rise to the occasion but far exceed any expectations.”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Captain Kristen Rogers has spent the past 25 years protecting the people of Grand Rapids. Now, she s the police department s Deputy Chief, the first women to hold the role.
Police Chief Eric Payne announced the promotion Thursday morning.
Deputy Chief Rogers is replacing David Kiddle who is retiring after 28 years at GRPD. He served as interim Police Chief before Chief Payne was hired.
Rogers started with the department in 1996, working as a patrol officer before transferring to the Detective Unit for 16 years. In 2012 she was promoted to Sergeant and supervisor of the Family Services Team. Rogers helped coordinate responses to crimes involving children and sexual assault.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After serving the Grand Rapids Police Department for 28 years, Deputy Chief David Kiddle is retiring.
According to the GRPD, Kiddle will be taking on the role of Director of Security and Emergency Preparedness for Mercy Health Saint Mary s.
