Successful Journalists Who Failed in Politics

Successful Journalists Who Failed in Politics 13 May 2021 - 6:20 pm Left to right: Former Citizen TV anchor Kendagor Obadiah, Activist Boniface Mwangi and former journalist David Makali. Twitter Life at times demands for one to take risks and venture into unfamiliar territories. Whereas some risks may plough back big rewards, at other times the results may not be forthcoming. Some journalists took the gamble of walking away from their already successful careers to try their hand in politics with many vowing to change the status quo. Even though the gamble paid off for some like Mohammed Ali, others missed their shot and were forced to look for other avenues for income.

Impregnated and abandoned, two school girls struggle to raise Covid babies

May 11th 2021 at 17:20:59 GMT +0300 As the world marked Mother’s Day, two teens both residents of Mukuru Slums in Eastlands Nairobi, did not have much to celebrate given the weight of their problems. During the Covid period they were impregnated by men who have now fled from parental responsibility. Whereas Sexuality education remains a hotly contested issue here in Kenya, girls aged between 15 and 18 years are indulging in sex, according to The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey; thinking that having protected and consensual sex with someone you love is a good thing. Take the case of Mary (not her real name) 17-year-old who ‘fell in love’ with a 24-year-old man. The illicit relationship resulted into a baby and she consequently dropped out school. Seven months later, the father of her child has denied responsibility, leaving the teenager to raise the child with her single mother.

Ripple economic effect as Nyanza s Sh18 billion road project nears completion

THE STANDARD NYANZA The new dual carriage Oyugis town, Homabay County. [Eric Abuga, Standard] The narrow and heavily bumpy Ahero-Kisii-Isebania road has claimed many lives. Because of the many, frequent accidents, most public transport vehicle operators had quit using this road, leading to limited transport services. Over the years, the key road linking Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Kisumu counties deteriorated, almost killing economic activities in one of the fastest growing towns in Homa Bay – Oyugis.  Just two years ago, Oyugis town had a single drive lane cutting through it. There were no walkways. The centre was initially characterised by makeshift structures erected on both sides of the road.
