The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lira City has thrown out an application that sought a vote recount in the disputed parliamentary election in Kwania County, Kwania District.
Mr Innocent David Omara of Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party, had applied to court seeking a vote recount after losing the January 14 election to Mr Tony Ayo of the National Resistance Movement.
Mr Ayo garnered 8,260 votes against Mr Omara’s 8,036 votes. Other contenders were Mr Andrew Odur Adiga (FDC) who polled 404, and independents Nelson Adupa (2,668) Jimmy Okello Ecun (2,956) Emmanuel Ogwal Agweno (215)and Geoffrey Ogutu (1,162).
Mr Omara claimed the high number of votes declared invalid by the second respondent (Electoral Commission) totalled 809 votes, and if recounted, could alter the result in his favour.

A Christian woman was beaten and forced to drink a pesticide by her Muslim husband upon finding bibles in her personal belongings.
Zubeda Nabirye, a Christian woman in Uganda, experienced persecution in the hands of her own husband in Matovu Village in Bugiri District on Nov. 21, Morning Star News reported.. Umar Kyakulaga, the Muslim husband, beat her and forced her to drink pesticide after discovering Bibles kept in her wife s belongings.
In an interview with Morning Star News contact, Nabirye explained that her Muslim husband found two Bibles hidden in her suitcase. She possessed Bibles in two different translations; English and their native language.
A Muslim man in eastern Uganda, who said the Quran allows men to beat their wives if they disobey them, beat his 38-year-old wife, who is a mother of three, and forced her to drink pesticide after he found two Bibles in her suitcase, according to a report.
The man, identified as Umar Kyakulaga from Uganda’s Bugiri District’s Matovu village, asked his wife, Zubeda Nabirye, if she had converted to Christianity, and Nabirye replied that she was reading the Bible to compare it with what is written in the Quran, according to Morning Star News, a nonprofit that regularly reports on global Christian persecution.

BUDUDA, Uganda When Brenda Namutebi renounced Islam and accepted Christ as her savior in a local Catholic Church, her Muslim husband and neighbors subjected her to harsh conditions, hoping she might change her mind.
Namutebi’s husband beat her severely, squeezed her throat and threatened her with death and divorce. Her neighbors cursed her and told her she would never live in the community and have peace as long as she was a Christian.
