A BURGLAR who struck his victims over the head with two wine bottles in Cowes has had his sentence increased to nine years. Darren Rose, 29, of no fixed abode, had denied the offences but was convicted of aggravated burglary by a jury following a trial which concluded on Thursday, July 30. The court heard how on October 26, 2019, he had forced his way into an address on Cross Street in Cowes armed with the bottles. Rose woke a man in the address before throwing one of the bottles at him, striking him in the head, Portsmouth Crown Court heard. The man, who was known to Rose, was assaulted further with the second wine bottle, before a woman at the address bravely tried to intervene and jumped on Rose’s back.

Portsmouth man jailed for longer
A Portsmouth man has had his jail sentence increased following an intervention by the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP.
Darren Rose, 29, was found guilty of aggravated burglary and wounding with intent against two victims. Prior to this case the offender had 38 previous convictions, a number of which involved theft and violence.
Rose was convicted of breaking into a shared house in the early hours of 26 October 2019 and assaulting a man with a wine bottle. Rose was jealous of the perceived relationship his victim had with Rose’s then partner. A female housemate who confronted Rose was also assaulted and other residents were left in fear.
